Guide

EPA Guyana permits and monitoring evidence

How to track an Environmental Protection Agency permit without inventing a discharge limit.

What the official sources say

The Environmental Protection Agency is the environmental regulator. Project permits and the Environmental Protection Act, Cap. 20:05, can both apply, and the permit can be stricter than the Act. Water, air, noise, hazardous waste, and authorisation regulations sit underneath. A number in a library is not the limit on your permit.

If the sample is missing, old, or still awaiting a reviewer, the metric stays unknown. Days until the date printed on the permit are a watch item. A warning lead time you choose internally is not a statutory grace period. Starting a project without a required permit is a different question from a late sample, and the penalty catalogue cites section 15(1), not a section we have not read.

Questions people ask

Can I use a standard discharge number for every site?

No. The limit, if there is one, is in the authorisation and the regulations for that activity. PetroMetric does not ship a generic discharge threshold.

Does a high evidence-coverage percentage mean the permit is complied with?

No. Coverage counts accepted evidence over applicable items. It is not a legal compliance score, and an unreviewed sample stays unknown.

Is the Oil Pollution Act the same as an EPA permit?

No. The Oil Pollution Act 2025 is a separate enacted statute whose commencement order was not verified as of 8 November 2026. EPA permits are tracked on their own.
